Dances at Noon: The CONcepts Artists

Friday, March 2, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

The Tufts University Department of Drama and Dance and the CONcepts Artists invite you to the first of two Dances at Noon events in March.

You may have heard different forms of dance, like popping or locking, labeled as “hip hop.” Though many styles are accepted as falling under the “Hip Hop umbrella,” every street dance has its own separate history, and in the case of dances like popping, locking, and krump, originated in the West Coast, far away from New York City, where Hip Hop was born.

During the first half of this showcase, seven performers will showcase the rawness and individuality of Locking, Hip Hop, House and Krump: Carl Alleyne, Steven Garcia, Hilary “Hibbz” Sayers, Robinson Conan Le, Ashton “Stiggity Stackz” Lites, Darnell “Snoopy” Brown and Sean Bjerke. And because street dances are best learned in a social environment, the audience will be invited join the dancers onstage to learn some of the history and movement that make these styles unique from one another.

CONcept Artists is a Boston dance crew that descends from Side Project. Since 2011, the CONcept Artists have been particpating in events throughout the Northeast to share their passion for dance, as well as providing workshops.

Free and open to the public.

This event will be repeated at noon on Friday, March 30.
