Tufts Composers: New at Noon #1 – What Is This Sloppy Music?
Tufts Composers begins a new season of New at Noon with "What Is This Sloppy Music?" "Mozart" (Mozahrt) was apparently once used as a nickname for "sloppy people." Taking inspiration from W.A. Mozart’s striking Minuet in D, K.355, Tufts Composers have cobbled together solo instrumental pieces in response to its challenges with the promise that they’ll be cleaned up in time for performance. The Jumpin' Juba trio will provide the live music at the Medford Council on Aging's frightfully fun Halloween Party at the Senior Center. Juventas New Music Ensemble opens its 2024-25 concert season — its 20th — with "Limestone and Felt," a free Neighborhood Series Concert at First Baptist Church of Medford. The program will include mesmerizing music by living composers featuring the unique pairing of cello and percussion. It will feature works by Osnat Netzer, Caroline Shaw, and Osvaldo Golijov, and performances by Timothy Peak, cello, and Thomas Schmidt, percussion. Supported in part by a Medford Arts Council grant.
