Chris Beard, the “Prince of Blues,” brings his contemporary blues style to The Porch Southern Fare & Juke Joint at River’s Edge. Memphis-born Beard is the son of Joe Beard, a fine blues guitarist who grew up in the New Orleans of the 1950s. Schooled by family friends Matt “Guitar” Murphy and Buddy Guy in Rochester, New York, Beard’s 1998 debut recording, “Barwalkin’,” scored him a Blues Foundation W.C. Handy nomination as Best New Blues Artist. His follow-up disc, “Born To Play The Blues” (2001), earned him the title Prince of the Blues. His 2005 release, “Live Wire,” highlights his assertive voice and exciting guitar in a seamless combination of traditional blues with a contemporary edge.
