Film and Discussion: My Kid Could Paint That

Wednesday, December 19, 2018 @ 7:00 pm

Free

The Medford Film Collaborative introduces a new monthly series of thought-provoking films about art and artists with the showing of “My Kid Could Paint That.”

The 2007 film tells the fascinating story of a 4-year-old painter from Binghamton, N.Y., who is producing paintings that are being purchased for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her father is a painter as well, and through watching her dad, she picked up the trait. The media has deemed her a “child prodigy” but this young girl’s work isn’t without controversy. People contest that a 4-year-old isn’t capable of such work and that her father is producing the artwork for her. Is it genuine work by the little girl or is this a fraudulent scam by her father to make money? This documentary is neutral in its approach to find the truth. The audience is left to decide what to believe.

A group discussion to share opinions and thoughts of who the true artist in the family is will follow the film.

The film series is being presented by the Medford Film Collaborative in partnership with Medford Arts Center, Inc.; The Gallery in Malden; Coffee Shop Artists; Howe Creative Studio & Gallery; Sanctuary UCC Church; and First Baptist Church of Medford.
