Film and Discusson: PUSHOUT

The Mystic Valley Branch NAACP is co-sponsoring an online viewing and discussion of the 2019 film “PUSHOUT: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools,” a documentary that takes a close look at the educational, judicial and societal disparities facing Black girls. The film will be shown at 2:30 p.m., followed by a community discussion at 4:30 based on the work of Dr. Monique W. Morris. Moderator will be Erga Pierrette, a licensed clinical social worker who co-founded the Malden Community Organizing for Racial Equity. Panelists will be Jennifer Hedrington, the 2021 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year 2021; Alexandria Chidera Onuoha, Director of Political Advocacy at Black Boston; student-centered instructional leader Abdel Sepulveda; Mystic Valley Regional Charter School sophomore Thora Henry; Eric Henry, founder of the Mystic Valley Engineering Students Society; and Melanie Rush, a Research and Policy Assistant at the Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law & Justice.
