Heathers the Musical

Saturday, March 30, 2019 @ 7:00 pm

Free

Torn Ticket II, Tufts University’s only student-run musical theater group, presents “Heathers the Musical,” directed by Nick Jodka, music directed by Josh Kim, and choreographed by Amanda Rose.

Originally performed Off-Broadway, “Heathers” offers a petri dish sample of American society through the lens of an exaggerated 1980s high school. The audience follows Veronica in a dark satirical journey to try to find beauty in life and in others. Disillusioned regarding where true beauty lies, she ditches her childhood best friend in pursuit of the popular crowd by aligning herself with a trio of girls known simply as “The Heathers,” who are sadistic high school royalty. In an attempt to overthrow this artificial hierarchy, Veronica (somewhat accidentally) joins her love interest JD in a murder spree, covering up all of the deaths as suicides. However, when these deaths inadvertently reinforce the hierarchy they sought to overturn, the experiment ends up going too far for Veronica’s liking — but at what point is it too late to turn back? The show is based on stylized contrast between satire and reality through acting, movement, and design elements.

Admission is free, but tickets should be reserved online through Tufts Tickets.
