Historic Walking Tour: The Many Faces of Grove Street
Saturday, August 19 @ 10:00 amFree
Local historian Dee Morris’ annual summer walking tour will feature Grove Street in West Medford.
Known early on as one of the ancient roads to Woburn, Grove Street was by 1885 described as the “most lovely street in Medford.” Its connection to the Brooks family was without question. For many years it was considered to be their private road, giving them access to their several estates. In the 20th century, many of the homes, especially at the High Street end, were constructed for well-to-do merchants who found West Medford to be a commuters’ dream. Boston was just a train ride away. Then the coming of the Brooks Estates subdivisions opened up the Grove Street neighborhood to development.
The tour will start at the beginning of Grove Street at High Street.
