History Book Group: Spying on the South

Wednesday, January 20, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

Free

The Medford Public Library, Medford Historical Society & Museum, and Friends of the Medford Public Library continue their History Book Group with a virtual discussion of “Spying on the South: An Odyssey Across the American Divide,” by Tony Horwitz. In the book, Horwitz traces Frederick Law Olmsted’s 1850s journey as an undercover correspondent in the South for the up-and-coming New York Times. It reveals much about the mind of Olmsted, who would become America’s greatest landscape architect, as well as about the issues that are dividing the country today.

The discussion will be led by Medford resident Richard Carle.

Copies of the book will be available approximately four weeks in advance. Call the library at 781-395-7950 to have a copy checked out to you for no-contact pickup.

To receive the Zoom link, you must register for the Book Group discussion through the calendar on the library’s website: https://www.eventkeeper.com/code/ekform.cfm?curOrg=MEDFORD&curID=481418
