Joanna Kurkowicz Violin Concert

Tuesday, April 27, 2021 @ 8:00 pm

Free

The Tufts University Department of Music invites you to a video premiere concert by Tufts performance faculty violinist Joanna Kurkowicz presenting the pinnacle of the solo violin repertoire: J.S. Bach Sonata in A Minor BWV 1003 and Partita in D minor BWV 1004. The program includes the famous Bach Chaconne, the greatest structure for solo violin that exists. As a bridge from Bach to the contemporary, Kurkowicz will perform three world premieres inspired by Bach, written by I.Velazquez, J. McDonald, and Z. Wadsworth, as well as two miniatures by G. Kurtag.

Praised in Gramophone magazine for “disciplined virtuosity,” Kurkowicz enjoys an active and versatile career as an award-winning soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and concertmistress. She has performed on many of the great concert stages of the world, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall in Boston, and the Grosse Saal, Salzburg. She currently serves as concertmistress of the Boston Philharmonic and the Berkshire Symphony.

The virtual video concert will be available on YouTube; link to be announced.
