Tufts Symphony Orchestra

Thursday, May 2, 2019 @ 8:00 pm

Free

The Tufts University Symphony Orchestra performs its spring concert under the direction of John Page.  Opening the concert are two pieces by well-established modern composers, both of them Tufts faculty members. First, Kareem Roustom’s “Aleppo Songs” is a colorful depiction of urban folk songs from Syria. Next is John McDonald’s “Braced,” arranged specifically for TSO. Following these pieces, Thomas Risoleo (Tufts Class of 2021), the 2019 Concerto Competition winner, solos with the orchestra in Grieg’s ravishing Piano Concerto in A Minor. The concert, and the TSO season, will close with Tchaikovsky’s classic Symphony No. 5 in E Minor, a journey from the depths of despair to triumph over fate.

TSO’s musicians will be collecting optional donations at the door to help fund their upcoming tour in 2020.

Free; no tickets required.
