Words and Music: Holidays Across Cultures
Friday, December 4, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
This month’s Words and Music program, presented by the West Medford Community Center, is titled ‘Tis the Season: Celebrating the Holidays Across Cultures.” The “Words” segment will look at popular year-end holiday celebrations, such as Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa, and offer perspectives on the cultural, ethnic, and religious aspects that endear this time of year to local families and neighborhoods. The impacts of COVID-19 on such celebrations also will be discussed. The “Music” portion of the program will take a look back at the recent Medford Jazz Festival, featuring the music and poetry of Jonathan Fagan’s Ally Project, the Jacques Schwarz-Bart Quintet, the Jim Repa Quintet, the Kevin Harris-Steve Langone Duo, and Glenn Dickson’s Dreams and Meditations Suite. Segments from each of the five nights of performances will be shown.
View the event by going to the West Medford Community Center’s Facebook page, where it will be streamed live. Medford residents with cable TV can also watch the program live (Ch. 3 on Comcast and Ch. 47 on Verizon).
West Medford Community Center launched Words and Music in 2017. Usually presented on the first Friday of every month, the event starts off with a discussion on a valuable aspect of the community, followed by a performance by a local musician or musicians.
