Today is International Mother Tongue Day, a worldwide annual observance held on February 21 to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism. Join the Medford Connects City Connectors for a celebration at the library. Light refreshments will be served. This year marks the silver jubilee celebration of International Mother Language Day, which was first proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999 and then was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2002.

Six-piece Boston funk and soul pop band The Far Out, New England Music Awards New Act of the Year in 2024, headlines tonight's live music at Deep Cuts. Members are Ellie Dolan, vocals/trumpet; Olivia Lowe, vocals/guitar/flute; Drew Phillips, drums; Colin Senechal, saxophone/guitar; Ryan Fremont-Smith, bass/vocals/saxophone; and Henry Zagarella, vocals/keys/trombone. Also performing: Hill House and Peach Party. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 show day through Dice.

The Medford Public Library is offering the training you need to "check out" the library's Maker Space just like a study room. With this 101 session on the library's MakerBot Sketch 3D printers, you can earn a "badge" and gain more exclusive access to the Maker Space and its contents. Once a course is complete, you can reserve the room when it is available. For ages 16 and over. Register through the library's new online calendar.

The Medford Chess Club invites you to its weekly meet-up in Medford Square, taking place in the second-floor gallery at the library. The club has chess sets, chess clocks, and helpful members to teach you the rules if you're new to the game. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome, but those under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult or mature older sibling. There are no membership dues or fees to play.
