Week 2 of the Medford Farmers Market will feature live music by Mama’s Boy from 4 to 6 p.m. and Ryan Alvanos from 6 to 7 p.m., plus representatives of Sound on Mystic at the Community Table, introducing people to this new outdoor audio installation combining music, spoken word, sound art and ambience into a unique immersive experience.

Mama’s Boy is the mother-son duo of Sue Holcomb and Nate Holcomb Burket. They lend their voices, violin, guitar and keyboard to a wide range of musical styles including classical, jazz, folk and pop. Ryan Alvanos is a poet by training, storyteller by trade, songwriter by passion, busker by calling, and whim-blown vagabond by good fortune.

Sound on Mystic is located along a two-mile stretch of the Mystic River in Medford and Arlington, and is accessed through ECHOES, a free mobile app that uses GPS data to cue different sounds at various sites. Once you download the app, just put on a pair of headphones, take a walk within the installation’s extensive boundaries, and you’ll hear a diverse set of sound works that are all united by the river itself, and its complex legacy as a place of history and nature, community and conflict, labor and recreation.

The Sound on Mystic team will have volunteers at the table with an iPad and sign, showing market attendees how to access the installation and what they can expect to hear.

The Medford Farmers Market takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. each Thursday at the Condon Band Shell Park.
