Challenging Assumptions in Telling Underrepresented History
Wednesday, February 9, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeKyera Singleton, executive director of the Royall House & Slave Quarters on George Street in Medford, will be a panelist at the Massachusetts Historical Society Program “Challenging Assumptions in Telling Underrepresented History.” Too often public history organizations have believed that there were not enough records to give voice to enslaved people and other underrepresented voices from America’s past. This MHS program will feature three projects at historical organizations that have been able to tell the stories of enslaved people. These projects show that with research and persistence, the stories of all of Massachusetts’s residents can be shared.
Joining Singleton for the panel discussion will be Cynthia Cowan of Historic Newton, Stacen Goldman of the Framingham History Center, and Barbara Brown, from Hidden Brookline.
Admission is free, but registration is required through the MHS website.
