Author Talk: Ted Reinstein – Before Brooklyn

Tuesday, June 28, 2022 @ 7:00 pm

Free

The Medford Public Library welcomes author Ted Reinstein for a talk on his book “Before Brooklyn: The Unsung Heroes Who Helped Break Baseball’s Color Barrier.” Join Ted Reinstein as he tells the story of the little-known heroes who fought segregation in baseball, but have remained largely unknown. One of the book’s main unsung heroes is West Medford’s very own native son, Mabray “Doc” Kountze. Kountze, who was a significant writer and contributor to many leading African-American newspapers through the mid-1900s.  He was the first African American journalist to receive an official press pass from the Boston Red Sox. Reinstein is best known in New England as a journalist and reporter for “Chronicle,” Boston’s celebrated — and America’s longest-running, locally-produced — TV newsmagazine.
