Hendrik (Henny) Gideonse, the music manager at The Porch Southern Fare & Juke Joint, hosts the second edition of the first Wednesday show Spirit & Protest. Starting a 6 p.m., the band Coywolf Johnson will lead family members, special guests and audience participants in singing four or five well-loved spirituals. These songs are for bringing people together and for generations have been used in community building, and the civil rights and peace movements. Lyric sheets will be available. After, the band will transition into playing original and specially selected cover tunes that have been deeply inspired by African-American spirituals. Blues, murder ballads, protest songs and original material about living today. Hendrik with be singing and playing bass, Tony Savarino will be playing guitars, and Edwin Walker will be playing drums.
