The Tufts University Department of Drama and Dance is presenting six performances of “Fires in the Mirror,” written by acclaimed actress, author, and playwright Anna Deavere Smith.

Directed by Bridget O’Leary, “Fires in the Mirror” is an exploration of racial and cultural identity told verbatim through the accounts of more than two dozen eyewitness, community leaders, and victims of the riots that occurred in Crown Heights Brooklyn in August 1991.

This play is a conversation about the tensions and divides in our country. Smith’s play takes a complicated issue and examines it from all sides — leaving more questions than answers and prompting the audience to keep the conversation going.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on April 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21.

Ticket prices for the April 14, 20 and 21 performances are $15 for the public, and $10 for seniors and members of the Tufts community.
