Breaking Science: Myths of Veterinary Medicine
Tuesday, March 26, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe Medford Public Library invites science enthusiasts from 10 to 100 to its “Breaking Science” series. Learn about the science and technology you hear discussed on the news, from scientists and engineers who work on the newest discoveries. The series is organized by Dr. Jim Sampson, who holds a PhD in Immunology. Dr. Sampson is passionate about the value of knowledge and strives to help people understand how and why they get sick, and share with them the tools they need to understand the problems facing human health in the modern world.
This week’s topic is Myths of Veterinary Medicine. Memes, anecdotal evidence, and misinformation run rampant among armchair human “doctors;” in the case of veterinary medicine (where the patient can’t just speak to you and tell you how they’re doing), the problem is sometimes even worse. Come hear a veterinarian discuss some of the most common “conventional wisdom” she comes across that is actually detrimental to Fido and Fluffy.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please register through Eventbrite.
Future dates and topics (all Tuesdays, 7 to 8 p.m.) are:
April 2: Climate Change and Fungal Infection
April 16: Biology of the Placenta
April 23: Mosquitoes, Fevers and Malaria
May 7: Revolutionary Cancer Therapies
May 21: How to Win (Maybe) the War on HIV
