Medford Brewing Company presents another edition of "Melodies On Tap," its first Thursday of the month open mic night hosted by Zion Rodman and Christian Colegrove. One-man band Big Jon Short provides the First Friday Blues at The Porch. Armed with foot percussion, a National Reso-phonic Guitar and Lowebow cigar-box reso-hillharp, Short’s high-energy performances tap into the heart of the songs, regional styles, and folklore of the blues and its importance to American music. The Iron Roses headline tonight's live music at Deep Cuts, supported by One Fall and Lowest of the Low. Doors open at 7 p.m. with music at 8. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show through Dice.  

The Abbott Street String Band returns to The Porch with a little bit of bluegrass, and a little bit of Dixieland. This group of local old-time players formed at an Abbott Street residence during the pandemic. They feature acoustic instruments such as banjos, fiddles and guitars, and groove on the melodies of traditional fiddle tunes, dances and reels. Stefan Weiner, a New York City-based indie folk singer-songwriter, headlines tonight's live music at Deep Cus. Weiner, who earlier spent years making pop music, mixes the immediacy of classic pop writing with the intimacy of a quiet conversation with a friend. Through his music, Stefan hopes to create space for people to access a deeper vulnerability. Rumboat Chili, an original, classic-style rock band from New Hampshire, makes its Medford debut at The Porch. The band takes pride in its classic roots, harkening back to original, raw, rock 'n' roll. Combining layers of organ, piano, dual lead guitars, tight rhythmic bass, and powerful drums, the band’s music is driven by two distinct, smooth, and harmonizing lead vocalists. The closing of Johnny D's Uptown in Somerville left a big hole that needed to be filled: a place for blues musicians to jam on Sundays and support one another. That is the spirit The Porch fosters with its People's Jam. Bass amp and two guitar amps provided, along with DIs, vocal mics and horn mics. Just come in and sign up.
