Art Class for Seniors
The Medford Council on Aging presents its weekly art class for seniors led by Tom Wojciechowski, a visual artist who works in a variety of media including installation, painting, photography and books. Build skills and techniques each week and try out various processes that help you experiment and find joy in art and image making. As part of the ongoing "Impossible Music" exhibition at Tufts University Art Galleries, the Tufts New Music Ensemble — with special guest John McDonald — will perform a selection from Tom Johnson’s "Imaginary Music" series (1974-1975, 1993). Containing a total of 104 scores, these drawings of musical symbols or loose suggestions of notes promote non-linear interpretations, and Johnson used them as tools to imagine new musical possibilities. The Medford Public Library presents another edition of "Reading with Ryan" for emerging readers. Ryan loves when people read to him. If you are learning to read and want to build your confidence, come read to Ryan. Arts Collaborative Medford presents its monthly Poetry and Song Open Mic Night, hosted by Medford Poet Laureate Vijaya Sundaram, with guest poet CD Collins. A Kentucky native, Collins was selected as Malden’s inaugural Poet Laureate in 2023. She is the author of "Blue Land," a collection of short stories; a poetry collection; and "Afterheat," a novel. The Tufts Department of Music presents the screening of the film "Ballaké Sissoko, Kora Tales," telling the story of the kora, one of Africa’s most iconic instruments and featuring kora player Ballaké Sissoko. The Tufts Department of Music presents the 2025 International Symposium on the Musical Arts of Africa, focusing on the dialogue between communities of practice and communities of learning.
