An Enemy of the People
Saturday, October 26, 2019 @ 8:00 pm
$10 – $15Tufts University is presenting six performances of Henrik Ibsen’s “En Folkfiende” (“An Enemy of the People”). This is a new version of the play by Brad Birch and directed by Noe Montez.
In the play, Tom Stockmann discovers dangerous water pollution in the resort that just opened in his Norwegian town. But when he tries to inform the public and close down the town’s springs to prevent a health crisis, he faces threats to his and his family’s well-being from politicians and powerful investors who would rather protect the town’s economic engine. “An Enemy of the People” invites spectators to imagine the price they would pay to maintain their integrity and uphold truth.
“An Enemy of the People” is a play about disbelief in science, whistle blowing, leaking information to the press, and politicians who invent alternative facts to appease their base in opposition to those who would risk their lives and livelihood to do the right thing.
Tickets to this performance are $15 for the public, and $10 for seniors and Tufts students, faculty and staff. They may be purchased through the Tufts Online Ticket Office. Remaining performances (all at 8 p.m.; prices vary) will be on Thursday, October 31; Friday, November 1; and Saturday, November 2.
