Sanctuary United Church of Christ presents a reception and reflection with photographer Astrid Reischwitz, whose images from her project “Stories from the Kitchen Table” will be on display at the Sanctuary Gallery from August 19 through September 22. Reischwitz created “Stories from the Kitchen Table” to preserve and honor a fading way of life in her childhood home, an old farmhouse in a small village in northern Germany. Connecting past and present, her composites include old family photos combined with images reflecting how she perceives her heritage today.

Astrid is a Boston-based photographer whose work explores the possibilities of storytelling from a personal perspective. Her projects include intimate views of private spaces and reflections on her own history and values. Using keepsakes from family life, old photographs and storytelling strategies, she builds a visual world of memory, identity, place, and home. Hear from Astrid at this reception about her work, and join the conversation.
