Tuesday, May 21, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe Medford Public Library invites science enthusiasts from 10 to 100 to its “Breaking Science” series. Learn about the science and technology you hear discussed on the news, from scientists and engineers who work on the newest discoveries. The series is organized by Dr. Jim Sampson, who holds a PhD in Immunology. Dr. Sampson is passionate about the value of knowledge and strives to help people understand how and why they get sick, and share with them the tools they need to understand the problems facing human health in the modern world.
This week’s topic is How to Win (Maybe) the War on HIV. In the past 40 years, HIV has emerged as a deadly, highly infectious threat. Recent advances in anti-viral therapy have turned HIV from a death sentence to a manageable chronic condition in many cases, but because the virus mutates so rapidly we still have not been able to develop a vaccine or cure for HIV, despite the investment of a lot of money and a lot of brilliant minds. Could there be hope? Come to the talk and find out.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please register through Eventbrite.
