Breaking Science: Vaccines
Tuesday, March 5, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe Medford Public Library invites science enthusiasts from 10 to 100 to its “Breaking Science” series. Learn about the science and technology you hear discussed on the news, from scientists and engineers who work on the newest discoveries. The series is organized by Dr. Jim Sampson, who holds a PhD in Immunology. Dr. Sampson is passionate about the value of knowledge and strives to help people understand how and why they get sick, and share with them the tools they need to understand the problems facing human health in the modern world.
This week’s topic is Vaccines. Vaccines are one of the greatest success stories of modern medicine. Diseases that once ravaged humanity have been controlled or even eradicated through global vaccination efforts. However, the anti-vaccine movement has gained ground recently through the effective use of social media and several high-profile influential figures. Come to this talk to learn about the scientifically validated facts about vaccines, and how to have an evidence-based conversation about this controversial topic.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please register through Eventbrite.
Future dates and topics (all Tuesdays, 7 to 8 p.m.) are:
March 19: Renewable Energy
March 26: Myths of Veterinary Medicine
