Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy Structure and Famous Characters

FreeJoin lecturer Francesco Castellano for this National Poetry Month presentation about Dante’s vision of the Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. The program will concentrate on the structure and famous characters in the work. There will also be an introduction to Dante the man and poet, and the political times in which he lived. The lecturer will do brief readings in Italian with translation to demonstrate the sounds and the rhythm of Dante’s language.
Francesco Castellano is a native speaker of Italian with a lifelong interest in music, literature and history. In addition to his military career, he taught languages from junior high level through college. He received a master’s degree in Italian Literature from Boston College, where he currently teaches Italian.
Recently, he has been teaching the Divine Comedy at Tufts University’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. This spring he will be teaching Purgatory.
