“Dolley Madison: America’s First First Lady” is a new one-woman multimedia production starring Medford resident Laura Duggan, also the show’s writer and producer. The show celebrates one of America’s founding mothers, and also commemorates Dolley’s 250th birthday. The former Dorothea Dandridge Payne, Dolley was the wife of James Madison, the U.S. president from 1809 to 1817. She was noted for her social graces, which boosted her husband’s popularity as president, and did much to define the role of the president’s spouse, known only much later by the title First Lady.
