Faith and Film at Sanctuary UCC
Friday, October 18, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Sanctuary United Church of Christ continues its monthly Faith and Film program, with the fall series “Mortality at the Movies” — contemporary films that explore the value of life through the vantage point of death. Thought-provoking and often funny, these films remind us that while dying is a part of life, it need not keep us from living well. Attendees watch a current film, followed by a discussion about themes of morality, faith, and humanity led by local theologians and community leaders.
This month’s film’s visual pleasures are matched by a thoughtful narrative that takes a family-friendly — and deeply affecting — approach to questions of culture, family, life, and death. Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, a boy dreams of becoming an accomplished musician. Desperate to prove his talent, he finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead where along with a charming trickster he meets there, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story!
Bring your own beer, wine or soda. Space is limited. For reservations visit the Faith and Film web page.
Note: While Sanctuary’s license provides inexpensive access to a wide range of current and big-studio films, the church is limited in its ability to market the film title outside of its own network. Please call 781-395-3360 or e-mail office@sanctuaryucc.org for the title of this month’s film.
Cosponsored by the Medford Film Collaborative. Attending the film is free, but a freewill offering will be collected; the suggested donation is $10 per person.
