Sanctuary United Church of Christ presents a screening of “The Swimmers,” a Faith and Film event as part of its winter-spring Arts and Inspiration series IAmMigration. The film tells the true story of two Syrian sisters who flee their war-torn home in Damascus and swim for hours in choppy Mediterranean seas to reach Greece as asylum seekers before going on to compete at the Rio Olympic Games on “The Refugee” team.  They use their swimming skills — along with kindness, compassion and selflessness —  to help and inspire others.

Sanctuary UCC began its Faith and Film series in 2016 to explore the places where pop culture meets faith. Attendees watch a current film, followed by a discussion about themes of morality, faith, and humanity led by local theologians and community leaders.

This film screening and discussion are free to attend; a suggested $10 donation is welcomed. Bring your own beer, wine or soda.
