Film and Discussion: Jean-Michel Basquiat
Wednesday, April 24, 2019 @ 7:00 pm
FreeThe Medford Film Collaborative presents the fourth installment of a new series of thought-provoking films about art and artists with the showing of “Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child.”
A thoughtful portrait of a renowned artist, this documentary shines the spotlight on New York City painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. Featuring extensive interviews conducted by Basquiat’s friend, filmmaker Tamra Davis, the production reveals how he dealt with being a black artist in a predominantly white field. The film also explores Basquiat’s rise in the art world, which led to a close relationship with Andy Warhol, and looks at how the young painter coped with acclaim, scrutiny and fame. A discussion follows.
The film series is being presented by the Medford Film Collaborative in partnership with Medford Arts Center, Inc.; Malden Creates; Coffee Shop Artists; Howe Creative Studio & Gallery; Sanctuary UCC Church; First Baptist Church of Medford; and Pinnacle Mortgage Corp.
