Film screening: YARN
Thursday, March 1, 2018 @ 7:00 pm
FreeAfter several years absence, the Off the Square Screening Room returns as a partnership between the Medford Film Collaborative Medford Community Media, and the Media department of the Medford Technical High School. On the first Thursday of each month, the Screening Room will feature documentary and independent films that explore a wide range of subjects.
Kicking off the series is the film “YARN,” co-sponsored by the Mystic Makerspace, a program presented by Medford Arts Center Inc. at the Medford Public Library.
The film introduces you to the artists who are redefining the tradition of knit and crochet, bringing yarn out of the house and into the world. Reinventing our relationship with this colorful tradition, “YARN” weaves together wool graffiti artists, circus performers, and structural designers into a visually striking look at the women who are making a creative stance while building one of modern art’s hottest trends.
The film follows a few international artists and knitters as they bring yarn to the streets and into our lives in new ways. Starting in Iceland, this quirky and thought-provoking film takes viewers on a colorful and global journey to discover how yarn connects us all.
Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested to support the Screening Room series.
Medford Community Media is located at Medford High School and houses the city’s public access television station. The entrance is to the right of the main school entrance, near the automotive shop.
Off the Square Screening Room is made possible by in part by the Arts Alive Medford Foundation.
