Friends of the Library Annual Meeting
Friday, October 12, 2018 @ 7:30 pm
The Friends of the Medford Public Library’s annual meeting will feature Grady Hendrix performing his “Paperbacks from Hell” live show, based on the 2017 book of the same name.
Hendrix’s book chronicles the history of the horror paperback publishing boom that started in the early 1970s with the release of “Rosemary’s Baby,” “The Exorcist,” and “The Other,” and died in the early 1990s as serial killers lured horror paperbacks into their murder basements. Hendrix interviewed authors and artists to tell the story of how for one brief 24-year period, bookstores, drugstores, and supermarket spinner racks were awash in books about horny Bigfoots, Nazi leprechauns, killer maggots, and rabbis blasting KGB demons with super-shofars.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with the meeting to begin promptly at 7:30. Complimentary finger foods, beer, wine, and soft drinks will be served.
Attendees must be age 21 or older, and a member of the Friends of the Medford Public Library, to attend. Membership is open to everyone and starts at $15. To join, visit the Membership page on the Friends of the Library’s website.
Attendees are asked to RSVP via the Friends of the Library website.
