Holocaust Remembrance: Dirkje Legerstee
Wednesday, February 5, 2020 @ 7:30 pm
FreeSanctuary UCC and Temple Shalom invite you to hear Dirkje Legerstee’s gripping story of her family’s survival as World War II Nazi War victims. Through February 16, the Sanctuary Gallery is hosting Legerstee’s exhibit, “Angels in Human Skin: A Family’s Survival of World War II,” which through images and stories documents her parents’ experience in surviving the Holocaust. Her father was a Dutch Christian and was taken by the Nazis as a labor slave, and her mother was a Polish Jew who was a survivor of the Shoah. Legerestee will discuss the process of externalizing a story that has shaped her and haunted her imagination for decades as a second-generation Holocaust Survivor sponsored to come to America as a child in the 1950s.
The program will be presented again at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12 at Grace Episcopal Church in Medford.
