Humankind Listening Circle: Non-Violent Communication
Tuesday, November 12 @ 7:00 pm
FreeThe Medford Public Library invites you to “Humankind Listening Circle: Non-Violent Communication,” a presentation by award-winning public radio documentary-maker David Freudberg. Hundreds of Freudberg’s programs have been heard nationwide on NPR. His “Humankind” series asks: How do we hold on to our humanity in times of change and challenge? Last summer, the Library of Congress acquired the Humankind Collection of audio journalism. Freudberg is now presenting some of his favorite programs to public library audiences and elsewhere. A group listening session is followed by a discussion of the content.
This session will be about non-violent communication. Rarely are we taught the art of deep listening. Or how to respond to someone we don’t agree with — without accusation or blame or putting them on the defensive. These are some skills learned in a system known as Nonviolent Communication, a simple way to defuse conflict and foster greater compassion. It’s especially relevant in our polarized world. Finding ways to do that has long been a quest of author Marshall Rosenberg and educator Betty Burkes, both heard in-depth in this program.
RSVP through the library’s online calendar.
