O’Riley Irish Dance is offering “Step into a Story,” an Irish Dance Theater Camp led by Hannah DeRusha during February school vacation week. During this weeklong camp, for ages 7 to 12, children will combine the steps of Irish dance with theatrical storytelling. Through collaboration between instructor DeRusha and the dancers themselves, the narrative arc and tone of a folk tale will be conveyed through Irish dance. Students will learn and drill new steps, creatively apply steps and dances they know to a new project, and explore basic theater techniques (such as costume design) and improvisation games. The week will culminate in a fun performance for parents and friends. The camp is open to dancers from any Irish dance school, 2-plus years experience preferred.

Instructor Hannah DeRusha brings 25 years of Irish dance experience, a background in improvisational comedy, and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She has instructed children, teens, and adults in Irish dance for over 13 years and currently teaches with O’Riley Irish Dance and Miss Louise’s School of Dance as a member of Rince Tuatha Nua.

Camp sessions are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, through Friday, February 21. Early bird registration fee is $375 by December 15; regular registration fee is $425 by January 15. Register online through the camp web page.
