Jihad Jones & The Kalashnikov Babes
Friday, April 12, 2019 @ 8:00 pm
$10The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies at Tufts University is presenting four performances of the play “Jihad Jones & The Kalashnikov Babes,” directed by Heather S. Nathans.
Award-winning playwright Yussef El Guindi offers a new take on the familiar tale of an artist weighing the virtues of pursuing his creative dream in poverty or selling his soul for fame and fortune. Film executive Barry desperately needs rising star Ashraf to play the lead role in his new drama. He offers him anything to take the part. What’s the hitch? Ashraf is fed up with being stereotyped – even if it means he might miss his big break. The tension escalates as Barry gets more and more desperate to get Ashraf to sign the contract. Watch the action spiral into farce as Ashraf struggles to free himself from Barry’s clutches and resist the siren song of a Hollywood blockbuster.
All tickets for this performance will be $10 and are available through the Tufts Tickets website. Tonight’s performance also features a post-show talkback with the playwright, Yussef El Guindi, and the Muslim Chaplain at Tufts, Celene Ibrahim, with a reception to follow.
The final two performances will be at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
