The Tufts University Department of Music presents a lecture/masterclass by Tufts performance faculty violinist Joanna Kurkowicz titled “Bach and Beyond.” Kurkowicz will explore multiple topics related to the sonatas and partitas of J.S. Bach. Stylistic issues in performance practice, technical challenges in the performance of Bach sonatas and partitas, analysis of certain historical recordings, and interpretation of the Bach manuscript will all be included.

Praised in Gramophone magazine for “disciplined virtuosity,” Kurkowicz enjoys an active and versatile career as an award-winning soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and concertmistress. She has performed on many of the great concert stages of the world, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall in Boston, and the Grosse Saal, Salzburg. She currently serves as concertmistress of the Boston Philharmonic and the Berkshire Symphony.
