Julian’s Fasti
Saturday, May 4, 2019 @ 8:00 pm
FreeTufts University hosts the premier of “Julian’s Fasti,” a concert work created by Colin Gee and Tufts professor of music John McDonald. The performance follows Ovid’s “The Book of Days,” a six-part poem with entries for the months January to June, remarking on issues that persist today. With subtle subversion, the character Julian contends with fear and loss by traversing a gamut of emotional stances and behaviors stemming from religious, political, and antiquarian schemes. Featuring Colin Gee, performing artist (movement and libretto), and John McDonald, composer and pianist.
Born in California and trained as an actor at the Dell’ Arte School of Physical Theater (1991-92) and the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris (1994-96), Colin Gee was the founding Whitney Live artist-in-residence at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the 2009 visiting artist-in-residence at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. He performed as a clown in the Cirque du Soleil production “Dralion” (2001-04) and has created works for film, performance and opera since 2002.
