Monday, September 12, 2022 @ 11:00 am
FreeThe Lafayette Trail, Inc., invites the community to a dedication of a newly installed Lafayette Trail Marker outside Members Plus Credit Union in Medford Square. The Lafayette Trail, Inc. is a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit organization whose mission to document, map, and mark French General Lafayette’s footsteps during his Farewell Tour of the United States in 1824 and 1825. It aims to educate the public about the national significance of Lafayette’s Tour and to promote a broader understanding of Lafayette’s numerous contributions to American independence and national coherence in preparation for the 2024-2025 tour bicentennial celebrations.
Gilbert du Motier — better known as the Marquis de Lafayette — visited Governor John Brooks in Medford on August 28, 1824 at his home on corner of High Street and Brooks Lane in Medford Square. The sign commemorating his visit was funded by the Pomeroy Foundation’s historic signage program. The Medford Historical Society & Museum assisted researchers in confirming information about Lafayette’s visit to Medford.
