Medford disABILITY Fair
Saturday, October 7, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
FreeThe City of Medford’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities invites you to attend its disABILITY Fair to learn about resources for those with disabilities. The centerpiece of the event will be the showing of the 2018 documentary “Intelligent Lives” (70 minutes) at 12:15 pm. A project of award-winning filmmaker Dan Habib, the film is a catalyst to transform the intellectual disability label from a life sentence of isolation to a life of possibility for the most systematically segregated people in America. It stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities — Micah, Naieer and Naomie — who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and the workforce.
The event will also feature speakers including parents of children with disabilities, and Lotte Diomede, the president/co-founder of SMILE Mass (Small Miracles in Life Exist), an organization dedicated to helping families raising children or adults with disabilities enjoy happy, healthy memories through education, vacation, and recreation experiences. There also will be resource tables, a mobile COVID vaccine clinic, and more. American Sign Language interpreters will be available.
