Medford Jazz Festival: Jonathan Fagan’s Ally Project
Thursday, October 29, 2020 @ 7:00 pm
Bop Stop Studios invites you to the first Medford Jazz Festival, a five-day event showcasing the cultural diversity, creativity, and talent of local musicians through several virtual concerts, masterclasses, and interviews. Featuring Medford-based saxophonists Jacques Schwarz-Bart and Jim Repa plus acclaimed Boston pianists Kevin Harris and Jonathan Fagan, this festival will celebrate the range of musical perspectives that have always existed within the vibrant neighborhoods of the city, simultaneously focusing on the social injustices that continue to divide the entire country.
The performance series begins tonight at 7 with Jonathan Fagan’s Ally Project, featuring Fagan and John Dalton, Erik van Dam, Joe Brogan and Greg Toro, along with poet Terry E. Carter. This unique collaboration will feature poignant poetry and accompanying music, both of which serve as means to engaging in thoughtful conversations about society, social justice, and race. Bring questions for the performers, as they will be available to respond to your feedback throughout the evening.
On Friday, October 30, the Jacques Schwarz-Bart Quintet will perform at 7 p.m., then on Saturday, October 31, the Jim Repa Quintet takes the stage at 2 p.m.,
On Sunday, November 1, Kevin Harris and Steve Langone will perform at 3 p.m., and the Festival will conclude at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 2, with a “Dreams and Meditations” performance by Medford clarinetist Glenn Dickson.
All performances will be Livestreamed from Bop Stop Studios via Facebook and YouTube. Go to https://www.facebook.com/Medford-Jazz-Festival-113769573829058 for updated links and information.
