Medford’s Cordial Reception to Horticulture
Thursday, November 7, 2019 @ 7:00 pm
FreeThe Medford Garden Club welcomes Medford historian Dee Morris to talk about some early Medford gardeners who always loved belonging to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, whether they were from West Medford society like the prestigious Francis Brooks, or a coal merchant such as James Bean. Close to the Mystic River, Captain Joshua T. Foster raised his famous seedling peaches. Mrs. E. Joyce cultivated a spectacular flower garden, often winning prizes for her baskets of blooms. Their stories are drawn from a diverse cross section of residents ranging from a soda fountain czar to a self-employed “lady florist.” All are welcome to join the Garden Club for a fond tribute to these early MassHort enthusiasts and their gardening achievements.
