Today marks the opening day for the Charlotte & William Bloomberg Medford Public Library building. The new venue is on the site of the former library at 111 High Street but contains two full floors of collections plus many new features, including a makerspace, recording studio, local history room, gallery and cafe. There also are multiple meeting rooms of various sizes, plus the 100-seat Bonsignore Hall for larger programs and events. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

A ribbon-cutton ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, followed by a public open house.

The building is named in honor of Michael Bloomberg and Marjorie Bloomberg Tiven’s parents, who lived in Medford for 65 years. Through his Bloomberg Philanthropies, Michael Bloomberg made a $3 million gift toward the construction of the new library.
