Sarianna Duo: Two X Six
Sunday, September 18, 2022 @ 7:00 pm
FreeThe Tufts University Department of Music presents the Sarianna Duo — Sarita Uranovsky on violin and Anna Griffis on viola — in a program bookended by the beloved Mozart Duo in B-flat Major (1783) and “Three Madrigals” (1947) by Martinů. These larger works are joined together by Sibelius’s touching Duo in C (1891), Kaija Saariaho’s “Aure” (2011), Sonata No. 1 for Two Violins (1800) by Guadeloupean Creole composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, and the world premiere of John McDonald’s “Eight Strings, Two Minds, Single Track” (2022), written for the duo. The repertoire showcases music from the early classical to the very current and highlights the sparkling virtuosity and independence of both instruments, while showing how they can blend, sometimes imperceptibly, into one instrument.
Note: Due to university COVID-19 regulations, live audience attendees at Tufts Music events must be prepared to present a Tufts ID or COVID vaccination card showing that they have been vaccinated and boosted.
