Sewing Circle at ACM
Saturday, February 22 @ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
FreeArts Collaborative Medford invites you to a free sewing circle led by Rania Abdalla Kadafour, one of the artists whose work is featured in ACM’s current exhibition, “The Threads That Tie Us.” Rania is hosting a series of sewing circle where participants will collaboratively quilt the poetry of Marcellus Khalifa Williams. Missouri executed Williams last September despite doubts about the integrity of his murder conviction based on DNA evidence indicating his innocence. While on death row for 24 years, poetry became Williams’ lifeline to connecting with others. You will be guided in the trapunto quilting technique — a method Rania has been learning over the past year — which adds weight and presence to each word stitched. Through this meditative yet labor-intensive process, you’ll work together to honor Williams’ poetry in a meaningful way. RSVP requested through the ACM website.
