Tufts Sunday Concert: Tufts Symphony
Sunday, November 22, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeThe Tufts Sunday Concert Series presents the Tufts Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of John Page, in its annual fall concert, featuring an all-strings showcase of two contrasting works. Opening the program is Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, one of his most popular pieces. Full of lush melodies and virtuosic string writing, this Romantic classic has long been a staple of string orchestra repertoire. Julius Eastman’s epic work “Gay Guerrilla” ends the program. Written in 1980, this provocative piece is a commentary on music, society, and life as a gay, Black artist through its unconventional harmony and improvisatory nature. The Tufts Symphony has never taken on a challenge quite like this, and listeners are sure to be mesmerized by the transcendence of Eastman’s music.
The performance will be live streamed from Distler Hall on campus. Tune in on the Tufts Music Livestreaming webpage: https://as.tufts.edu/music/events/liveStreaming
