Tufts Electronic Music Ensemble
Sunday, December 9, 2018 @ 8:00 pm
FreeThe Tufts University Electronic Music Ensemble, directed by Dr. Paul Lehrman, will perform works by Debussy, Santana, Grieg, Stevie Wonder, Brasstracks, and Marianne Faithful, as well as the world premiere of Henry Cowell’s 1931 “Concerto for Rhythmicon and Orchestra” featuring a genuine Rhythmicon, a re-creation of an almost unknown instrument built in 1930 by composer Henry Cowell and famed inventor Leon Theremin.
Rhythmicon creators Wally De Backer (aka Grammy-winning singer/composer Gotye) and Mike Buffington also will be showing the instrument at a program at Tufts at noon on Monday, December 10, in the Fisher Performance Room of Granoff Music Center.
Both events are part of the three-day ElectroMechanicon: A Festival of Electronic and Mechanical Musical Instruments, which also features a December 11 concert at ONCE Lounge in Somerville.
Free; no tickets required.
