Gamelankemana provides the musical entertainment at this week’s Medford Farmers Market, performing from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The ensemble is based on a form of Balinese music called gender wayang, which is used to accompany shadow-puppet plays.  This style of music is considered extremely demanding because the players must play independent interlocking parts with both hands, while also using their palms and fingers to dampen the keys after they are struck.

The market day will conclude with the City of Medford’s final Condon Shell Summer Concert, featuring the soulful folky-blues of Kevin So and his band from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

And bring your library card to the market as well, because the Medford Public Library will be on hand with traveling book bins. Stop by to borrow books, get information about the library’s new temporary location on Boston Avenue, or do a craft activity.

TheMedford Farmers Market takes place at the Condon Band Shell Park from 3 to 7 p.m. every Thursday through October 17.
