Tufts Sunday Concert: Letters from the Quarantine

Sunday, September 26, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

The Tufts University Department of Music begins its Sunday Concert Series for 2021-22 with “Letters from the Quarantine.” During the long months of quarantine, the new normal for musicians became joint work at a distance, using Logic and other programs to substitute the time spent rehearsing and working through the music together. Using this system, the music performed on this concert was composed and recorded on Logic. Producers Nando Michelin and Ebinho Cardoso worked at a distance on the arrangements and when they were ready those were sent to the musicians involved. As soon as the restrictions were lifted the band got together for rehearsals and a recording session in New York. Special guests Antonio Loureiro and Miguel Zenón recorded their participation after, from their own home studios. Nando Michelin’s composition blends the styles of Brazilian and Latin American music with jazz, creating a unique sound.

This concert features Grammy awarded artists Chico Pinheiro, guitar, and Rogerio Boccato, percussion, as well as Tiago Michelin, drums, and Ebinho Cardoso, bass and vocals. The album was made possible by the Granoff Music Fund.

Free; no tickets required. Due to COVID regulations, live audiences at Tufts Music events are restricted to individuals with a Tufts ID only. This event will be streamed through https://as.tufts.edu/music/news-events/live-streaming.
